The City of Lansing is seeking four Mechanic 500 candidates. This is a great opportunity to work in a new state-of-the-art O & M facility and join a team of individuals dedicated to maintaining and repairing the City’s fleet. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Performs preventative maintenance inspections and safety checks on light and heavy duty vehicles and equipment. • Performs diagnostic and corrects problems for defective functions of air and hydraulic brake systems, steering, fuel pumps, exhaust systems, electrical connections, engines, power take offs, hydraulic systems and drive trains. • Rebuilds and rehabilitates hydraulic pumps, fire pumps, motors, diesel and gas engines, transmissions, and brakes. • May perform welding repairs on all types of vehicles and equipment. • Installs equipment on trucks including snow-plows and frames, underbody scrappers, dump truck bodies, saltboxes, sand spreaders, and trailer hitches. • Prepares and maintains work records of garage activities on a daily basis. • Provides verbal and written instructions regarding work orders and other job functions. • Cleans equipment, and work spaces using a wide range of solvents and other cleaning agents. biohazards • Cleans and disinfects vehicles involving bodily fluids.

This position requires a valid Michigan CDL License, Group B with Air Brakes and N Endorsement or be able to obtain this Michigan driver’s license and endorsement within ninety days of hire, 4 years of experience in repairing vehicles and heavy equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and work experience, and a high school diploma or GED. Any state, ASE. or EVT certifications are preferred.
