SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Mechanical Engineer Intern will work under the general direction of the Product Engineering Manager, to create drawings and to generate solutions that require development or sustainment of new or improved techniques, procedures, or products. Responsibilities include assisting with planning, conducting, and evaluating approaches to meet project objectives in a timely, cost-effective fashion. The role is also responsible for communicating cross-functionally as well as with vendors to obtain information and assistance. This position is responsible for achieving objectives while exhibiting Storm Industries Core Values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Regular Functions include:
Assists the Product Engineering Manager as assigned, with the research, development, testing, and proper design maintenance of all IPD products.
Learns and becomes proficient in the company operating system software and the engineering software programs such as Solid Works to create new and modified drawings.
Creates CAD drawings and supporting change order documents as needed.
Assists with creating and revising documentation for processes and projects that would benefit production.
Assists with quality assurance of all products.
Maintains IPD drafting standards in accordance with basic industry drafting and engineering standards.
Utilizes basic hand measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers and pin gages to aid in checking products.
Perform basic analysis of returned hardware from field to understand root cause of failures and redesign product for robustness and cost.
Prepares reports, memorandums and maintains related files
Maintains high standard professionalism in attitudes and communication with fellow employees and customers.
Assists with and ensures compliance with all safety regulations
May work in other departments as needed.
Complete other duties as required.

This position does not manage or supervise other individuals.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree, working toward Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent work experience
Required Behaviors and Competencies include:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
Ability to analyze and solve problems
Ability to visualize between 2D and 3D
Professional/Technical Training and Skills include:
Working ability with Microsoft Office suite
Experience using AutoCad and/or Solidworks
Effective at presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and general public
Skills in geometry and algebra
Experience using Labview and/or writing basic code an asset
