Nostrum Energy seek a focused and enthusiastic candidate to join our Calibration Team. The Calibration Engineer will be responsible for vehicle application calibration, product validation testing and regulatory compliance testing. The engineer will work with aftermarket calibration (ECUtek, HP Tuners, COBB AccessTuner, UpRev, winOLS, Alientech KESS, ALientech K-Tag, etc) to develop, test and validate product calibration packages for production release and emissions compliance applications. The engineer will be responsible for fuel injector (GDI & PFI) and pump calibration data packages, vehicle calibration, tuner device integration and in-vehicle testing with Nostrum’s fleet of development vehicles and with customer vehicles. Production Release of prototype, pre-production and production software, released calibration data packages, tuning instruction guides, compliance testing, regulatory applications, and customer support are included in the engineer’s responsibility. This position reports to the Director of Calibration and is stationed at the South East Michigan office in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA and will require up-to 20% travel to various domestic & international locations. Must hold a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, capable of driving a manual transmission and a valid Passport. Duties / Responsibilities
General Responsibilities:
Responsible for fuel system calibration, data package and tuning guide release (various platforms)
Collaborate with Test Engineering to develop data package by specifying table and variable requirements
Responsible for working with customers & SW companies to define calibration parameters
Responsible for dealer network calibration (tech) support and customer (calibration) support, including on-site support for dealers and branded customers as needed as well as ZenDesk ticket customer support
Responsible for Vehicle Design Validation and Production Validation plans and execution of the same
Responsible for production release of calibration tuning tools (ECUtek, COBB, UpRev, HP Tuners, BootMod3, etc)
Responsible for dynamometer and on-road vehicle performance, drive-ability and emissions performance
Responsible for regulatory compliance calibration packages, submission, and support
Support sponsorship vehicles & marketing initiatives including collateral material, data, & performance tests
Track support, as needed, for Nostrum, customer, and sponsored entrants
Support overall company emissions compliance, emissions testing, and support planning & strategy
Support and assist garage and dyno operations, including assisting in or conducting hands-on work as needed
Evaluate, create, document and present program status, benchmarking, technical reports.
Platform Specific Responsibilities:
Lead the reverse engineering process for calibration tables and functions for devices, including the characterization of the same for the component testing program to produce calibration data (Define how injectors, pumps and other devices are characterized from a controls and calibration standpoint in vehicle, then work with the Test Asset group to duplicate those control systems in the Testing area to replicate OEM stock data and then generate equivalent data for Nostrum products)
Responsible for collaboration with Tuning suite suppliers to expand fuel system controls as needed and possible (ECUtek, COBB, UpRev, HP Tuners, BootMod, MHD, EFI Live, etc.)
Selection evaluation & proposal of additional platform specific distribution products (intakes, exhausts, etc.) to the Sales team, and support the same.
Platform leader for specific brands & modes (multiple), such as BMW N55 engine, Subaru FA24F engine, or , Ford 3.0L Ecoboost (to be defined jointly).
Individual Responsibilities:
Responsible for creating and standardizing the calibration & vehicle development program, standards, and processes, including the requirements through the Development Gate System, the Vehicle Validation Plan, calibration strategy plans, and product release requirements with documentation.
Responsible for the Emissions Compliance program including development strategy, CARB EO testing, data analysis, and application submission. Including opacity meter equipment & data analysis.
Alma Auto combustion analyzer lead engineer, responsible for supporting internal applications and external customers.
NWIC water injection controller lead application engineer responsible for controller integration, strategy, SW management with Pi Innovo, and in-vehicle calibration.
Education:
Minimum requirement: BS in Engineering or similar Science
Preferred: BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Years of Experience: 2+
Qualifications:
Intimate knowledge of gasoline engine combustion systems, operation and controls.
Experience with aftermarket calibration tools (ECUtek, COBB Protuner, UpRev, HP Tuners)
Experience with engine sensors, actuators, power distribution & controllers
Knowledge of platform integration and development for high speed & complex engine controllers for the North American market, including passenger vehicles and/or commercial truck sectors (OEM ECM’s)
Availability to travel up to 20% (domestic & international) required
Candidate must possess valid employment authorization documents for employment in the United States
Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, authorized to drive in MI, and must have a clean driving record
Able to drive a manual transmission
